Ingo Brigandt

Ingo Brigandt is Professor of Philosophy and Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Biology at the University of Alberta. He works on scientific concepts, conceptual engineering, values in science, and mechanistic and non-mechanistic explanation. The scientific domains he is interested in are evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo), molecular biology, systems biology, and (most recently) neuropsychiatry.

Ingo received his PhD from the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh in 2006. In Fall 2014, he was previously a Center Visiting fellow. Ingo is an Executive Editor of the Canadian Journal of Philosophy and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution.
In addition to the above areas of research in which Ingo has extensively published, his areas of competence (AOCs) include cross-country skiing, gravel riding, and swimming. He is looking forward to the upcoming opera, ballet, and symphony performances that Pittsburgh offers.
